Industrial
Industrial is a style of experimental music characterized by specific aesthetics of mechanical and industrial sounds.
Birth: 1974 Bloom: 1979
The industrial style emerged in 1974 in Great Britain. The band Throbbing Gristle is considered to be the founder of this style as well as the founder of the Industrial Records label, whence the term «industrial music» came from. Originally, industrial wasn`t just a music style, but also it was the ideology. The period of time from 1974 to 1981 brought to the industrial scene a number of new artists and bands all around the world. Among them the most famous are Boyd Rice (NON), Einstuerzende Neubauten, SPK, Merzbow, and others. They were formers of the «classic industrial». But the style hasn`t become popular. Throbbing Gristle broke up in 1981 claiming about the end of industrial epoch and the start of post-industrial one.
It meant the change of tactics. Ex-members of Throbbing Gristle started several new projects, the sound of which was very different from TG. Other industrial bands such as SPK or Einstuerzende Neubauten also changed their strategy. Completely new projects began to appear. Post-industrial music was less aggressive and full of musical experiments. Nowadays, post-industrial musicians combine old industrial technics with other styles of music: dance, folk, ritual.
