Today we are visiting Alexander Sivin better known in the world of electronic music under the pseudonym DJ Lirrik. His tracks are the music of thoughts and the movement, really qualitative and "clever" sound. The incredible power, a magnificent combination of melody and the excitement makes each performance of DJ Lirrik unforgettable not only for true judges of a dance music, but also for those who absolutely incidentally appeared on a dance floor.
- Tell us why have you started to make music and what was in the beginning?
- At first I just wanted to be a DJ. My idol, as well as many other guys’, was DJ Tiesto. For some time all I was doing is just looking for qualitative tracks and learning to reduce them. My first teachers were DJ Relax and DJ Onyx from Nizhny Novgorod. I wasdoing pretty welland one day my elder brother – a person whose opinion I have always believed, - told me the phrase that forever changed my thoughts in the field of music.
- And what did he say?
- He said: "Enough to be the consumer – you should create a product by yourself!". Since then I not only perform with sets, but also I write the tracks.
- Tell us about your first creation. How did it come to the public?
- It was 2005 and the track «I Love You». I burned it on disks and gave them to my friends. I was glad that in reply I didn't hear negative recalls. Reaction was full of good constructive criticism that pushed me to further work.
- How did your tracks get into the hands of DJ?
- As now I remember, I arrived to our club "Mirazh" in Nizhny Novgorod. Rather popular at that time DJ Slav (Sasha Vingurt) was sitting on the sofa with two young ladies. I put the disc in the player, he listened … And, you know, I haven't heard such severe criticism neither to, nor after that meeting.
- Did he criticize you?
- That's not the word for it. But that only provoked me. After all,I had extorted from him information necessary to me about what was wrong and how it should be done. Then I went on with my work.
- Have you seen Sasha yet?
- Of course, and more than once. Later I visited him often, gave my works and he again criticized me – sometimes rigidly, sometimes not. Now we are good friends, when I happen to be in Nizhny Novgorod we meet. I am very grateful to him for what he has done for me.
- Did you study all by yourself or attend any school?
- I studied a lot. At first there were two schools in Nizhny Novgorod – where DJ Relax and DJ Onix learned me to reduce tracks and Zhenya Gagarin and Andrey Zhavoronkov acquainted me with creation of music. At the same time I met with Vitaly Hvaleev (one of participants of the famous Moonbeam project – an editor's note). Pasha - Shtanga acquainted me with vinyl. Then I moved to Moscow and studied at DJ Groove school and Action dj Academy, where I completed all possible courses. By the way, in Moscow I understood that people like my music – I incidentally found my track in a social network on the page of absolutely stranger. For me it was a little shocking because I didn't spread anythingin the general access, and only after a while it became clear that my friend had uploaded the track “I Love You” on a portal where people could find it.
- Do you still spread your music this way?
- Not anymore (laughs). It happened that my works were noticed by foreign labels (Sorcery Records, Electronic Gate Records, Trance4Life Records and others), and now my tracks can be downloaded from the specialized sites, such as beatport.com, junodownload.com, trackitdown.net. It is also possible to find them in iTunes. I know that my compositionsare often used as ringtones for smartphones.
- Do you follow the fate of your works?
- To be honest, not really. But I precisely know that my tracks sounded on platforms in the Netherlands, Germany, France and Miami, DJ Feel included them in the sets at the Transmission festival.
- Thanks for your time, Alexander! I hope you will please us with yournew works soon!
- I’ll do my best. See you on the dance floors of our country!
