Update 04/24/10

S'been a little while, so here we go...

DJ SIDE:
Last night's Fetish MasQ was a pretty good turnout, I must say. I had a lot of fun, and everyone else looked like they did as well. Next month's event promises to be a good one as well, as MasQ celebrates two years in existence! There's big stuff planned...stay tuned to Facebook for more information as it gets announced!

And on that front...it's gonna be a heckuva week for me. I'm gone from the 12th - 18th of May for Kinetik Festival 3.0, which is gonna ROCK! Two days after I get back, I'm competing at Breakout Thursdays @ Club 1668 (my FIRST dubstep performance!), and then two days after THAT, the two-year anniversary MasQ...s'gonna wipe me out, but it'll be fun!

After that, in June I perform at Through The Looking Glass in Middle Musquodoboit...and then in October, I'm spinning at the masquerade ball for Hal-Con 2010! Hopefully I'll have a few more things going on in-between ^_^

RADIO/PODCAST SIDE:
I'm hoping to have things all straightened out for a release schedule for the podcasts between now and the time I leave for Kinetik...when I'm not fretting over what to pack @_@ Stay tuned...

PERSONAL SIDE:
Necrobilia is getting more exposure, which is absolutely frakkin' kewl! The unveiling of the new mask at the Fetish MasQ was a success, if I do say so myself...and that's only the beginning ^_^

I know last year I tried to do a regular photoblog for my trip to Montreal for Kinetik...this year, I'm definitely going to be going all out for it! Expect lots of pics, lots of news & info...it's gonna be awesome!

I've gotten back into Japanese models, which makes me happy. Nothing better than getting to put together models of giant robots and then displaying them. In this case, it's a couple of the Armored Core models from Kotobukiya. So freakishly detailed...gotta love it ^_^

And this has been a resounding question asked of me for the last week or so, and it's been a little surprising how many people have asked this:

"Why aren't you spinning at the Fetish Ball?"

Let's just say...I wasn't asked. Am I bitter about it? Not really. Though I do admit not to being familiar with Latex Pagan's style/music choice, I'm sure they were picked for a good reason...and Freedom Danish is one of the best DJs I've ever worked with, so I know everything should go swimmingly. Yes, I do have my own beliefs as to why I wasn't picked this year...and they're my beliefs. Suffice it to say I'm not going to start a bitching contest here, 'cause that's not how I do things. I'm not in the habit of slamming people in my blog, as I consider myself a professional...even if I think they deserve it. If you want to know my thoughts on it...best to ask me privately.

That's about it for now...hopefully there will be another update between now and Montreal...stay tuned!

Update 04/06/10

And here we go again...

DJ SIDE:
A very neat development has come up, which has made me rather happy. I was contacted by Full Circle Events, and yours truly is now spinning at "Through The Looking Glass" in June, an outdoor dance party being held in Middle Musquodoboit. Last year's event, "Down The Rabbit Hole," was a pretty good event, so I'm definitely excited about it! You can search Facebook for info on the event, and check out the East Coast Groove forum for final location info when it gets posted :)

And with that event comes a bit of a shift in musical interest...namely switching gears to dubstep. Specifically, the darker, dirtier version of dubstep...which goes along with the fact that no matter what music style I choose to spin (EBM, industrial, noise, trance, breakbeat, dubstep, etc), it's gotta be dark, gritty and nasty ^_^

Does this mean I'm not going to spin EBM/industrial anymore? Well...that's a very good question. Do I WANT to continue spinning that genre in Halifax? Most definitely! EBM/industrial is, by far, my favorite genre of music. The aggressiveness, the harshness, the ferocity of the music...it definitely appeals to me...and I'm hoping there's still an audience in the city that would enjoy dancing their collective asses off to some hard beats! If there is, I'd definitely like to know ^_^

RADIO/PODCAST SIDE:
Okies...this is proving to be a rather complicated/frustrating thing. I had announced there would be a podcast series starting up, it was announced here on the blog, but trying to get it all synced up on iTunes has proven to be more than a royal pain where there's no window. However, I believe it had to do with the fact that the podcast file was stored on MediaFire, rather than an actual webserver. Not working regular jobs tends to prevent me from having regular funds to pay for monthly storage. I HAVE, however, found a free web service that offers a nice bit of storage, with a half-decent amount of web traffic per month...HOPEFULLY this will be what I'm looking for. If anyone has any suggestions regarding this, feel free to let me know @_@

As for the radio shows...I've talked to a couple DJs on Wolf Radio, and they're agreeable to the idea of me pre-recording my shows, uploading them to one of the DJs playing near my normal slot, and playing them. I would still be able to interact with my listeners in the chatroom, but I couldn't take requests on the spur of the moment like I used to. I can, however, have people write me their requests in advance, so I could get them in the mix, along with their names...so it would be ALMOST like it was live. We're going to give that a try relatively soon...so stay tuned ^_^

PERSONAL SIDE:
Necrobilia has been going rather swimmingly, I must say. Being the PR person for the venture is fun, especially when I get to see all the new stuff long before it gets posted online. However, you can read about that on the Necrobilia blog when it gets posted ^_^

As I mentioned in the last blog, I have something that's currently in the works (not related to Necrobilia)...it may have to wait, with the impending DJ gig in June, and Kinetik Festival happening in May. We'll have to see...

I've also done something on the weekend I've been threatening to do for a while...my hair is now all grey...and short. Yes...you read correctly...it's short. It was time for a change...and it's one I admit I'm still getting used to. Not that many have seen the short hair yet...I really haven't been out with people for anyone to see the change. I've been doing little more than sleeping, eating & watching DVDs during the day...when I'm not working temp positions, that is...which I'm doing from Wednesday - Friday this week.  But yeah...I've gone back into hermit mode, for the most part. Meaning if anyone wants to drag my sorry butt out of the house and do something, let me know...

That's about it for now...

Update 03/24/10

 Well...here we are again...

DJ SIDE:
Felt kinda weird not spinning at MasQ on Saturday, though I did drop in to see how it was going. Looked like things went rather well. I unfortunately missed Rune's set...though I'm sure it was awesome...she knows what the crowd likes :)

Thus far, the demos I've sent out to folks have not garnered a response, be it good or bad. One event has already listed their lineup, and I wasn't really told one way or the other. I think that's the most frustrating thing, personally. I always like to know where I stand, good or bad...I guess they didn't feel the same way about it. Ah well...

Still putting music together for Hal-Con in the fall...really looking forward to it. Got some surprises in store for people that night...should be a fun time :)

There's also something I wanna rant about, but I'm not sure if I should. It's hard to keep myself from saying how I feel about things when it comes to my DJing. However...seeing as it doesn't really involve anyone specifically, I guess I can let loose a little bit.

I'm getting the feeling lately that I'm being "typecast," per se. People see/hear my darker music choices, and think that's all they're ever going to get if I send them a demo. In my head, I'm feeling like I'm never going to get a chance to prove I can play other kinds of music, because of being typecast. Again, the aforementioned demos sent out recently were my attempts to show that I play more than just EBM/industrial, though that's my true passion. But I do feel like I'll never get the chance to prove it to anyone, because no one's interested in giving me a chance to prove it. My demo was downloaded twice (which is good, seeing as I only sent it to two people)...so they've either heard it and didn't like it...or they downloaded it and just decided to toss it. Either way...it's become so frustrating for me that I'm coming to the conclusion that maybe I should give it up for good...

RADIO SIDE:
Not so much radio, per se...but the first official podcast is up and available for download! Yes, it's only available right now on Mediafire, but it's a free download :) Hopefully as things go, I'll have a better site to put my podcasts on, and then I can get them syndicated through iTunes...though, in the meantime, I'm looking at some kind of free option for that...only time will tell...

The radio shows, as you've prolly already guessed, have been put on indefinite hold. The internet connection is still proving to be unreliable at random intervals. Some nights it's fine, some it's horrendous. It's really frustrating, as you can imagine.

PERSONAL SIDE:
On the personal side of things, not a lot has changed. I've had a few temp jobs here and there...got one lined up for tonight, a one-nighter thing. Better than nothing, I say.

Things with Necrobilia are coming along swimmingly. I've seen a couple of prototypes that are still under wraps for the moment...can't wait to put them on the blog/fan page...you're gonna love 'em! Hopefully this week, I'll be working on a prototype of my own...I'll keep you updated :)

Also...I have a plan for something coming up in the near future. Can't really say what it is at the moment, as it's only a concept right now. Giving any kind of hint might jinx it...I think that's vague enough :)

Still kinda feeling out of the loop, as far as things going on with my friends...and as you can imagine, I haven't been feeling the greatest about it. As a result, I've been hiding here in the house, having private CSI: Miami marathons, and feeling very much alone lately. It's beginning to feel like I may as well stop going out into public altogether...which would co-inside with the thought of retirement from DJing.

I dunno...

Well that's it for now...off to do something while I wait to get tired enough to sleep...or something...

Update 03/08/10

An update? So soon??!? Yup...don't get used to it, mind you...

DJ SIDE:
For those that might remember my last post, I was talking about the old school goth/industrial MasQ on the 20th of the month. Well...I will not be part of the line up for that night.  I also won't be in attendance, but I'm sure it'll be a great night...'specially with DJ Rune spinning a set. 'Twas always fun working with her, and hopefully I'll get a chance to do so again sometime :)

Something that I keep forgetting to mention...I'm going to be involved with the Karaoke Cures event this year, as I was last year. For those that might not know, Karaoke Cures is a 24-hour karaoke-a-thon for the purpose of raising money for the Canadian Cancer Society. They're still working on details for the event, but if you're interested in having a good time, it's an event that's worth supporting! You can go to their Facebook group for more information.

Also...if anyone has any specific requests for music for Hal-Con, now's the time to start sending them my way. Yes, I know it's not until the end of October...but it can never be said I leave things until the last minute :)

I've sent a couple of demos out to people recently (one tonight, actually), and I'm hoping to complete another (mebbe even two!) tomorrow to send out. Never let it be said I don't try :D I'll let you know how things go...

RADIO SIDE:
The poll I set up last week didn't get a lot of results, but between those, and responses on Facebook, I will be starting regular podcasts for both Totally Retro! and hard://DR1V3. I've also gotten a couple of invites to do a show at different stations, but until the whole stable net connection issue is resolved, it will be podcasts. Hopefully they will be broadcast on Wolf Radio, and they'll naturally be available for download. As soon as the first one is available, I'll let everyone know :)

PERSONAL SIDE:
Not a whole lot has changed on the personal front since the last post. I did some temp work recently, which was kewl. I might be going back for a couple days at the end of the week...not too sure yet. As much as I like having work through Kelly Svcs, I'd love to have a regular, full-time job.

And...I'm planning on doing something I was hesitant to do for fear of bodily harm...I'm getting my hair chopped off. Yes, yes, I know...how dare I. Simply put, we all have to grow up sometime. When will this happen? Dunno yet...but soon. Pics will undoubtedly be taken...

And that's about it. There's always stuff I don't put in these blogs, which is always for the best. At least for now. Everything is in flux...as life generally is.

More later on...

Update 03/01/10

I'm up way too late for doing this...but here goes...

DJ SIDE:
MasQ: Alice In Wonderland was...well...quiet. Not as many people showed up as I might have liked, but the die-hards were there giving their support, which is always great! This month is going to be Old-School Goth/Industrial...hopefully we'll have a good turnout for the classics!!

I'm still hoping to hear back from a couple people about possible gigs aside from MasQ...s'pose it's time to pester people :D

RADIO SIDE:
As some of you might know, Wednesday's Int'l EBM Day Celebration on hard://DR1V3 (the return of, anyway) didn't happen, due to a combination of problems on the server side, and the increasingly unreliable internet connection on this side of things. I'm hoping to get a friend of mine to help me sort out the problem on my end. When we get that all worked out, the radio shows will return.

For now, I'm looking at possibly doing just podcasts/pre-recorded shows for download. With that in mind:

Even if you're not on LiveJournal, let me know in comments, PMs, anything...

PERSONAL SIDE:Well...things have become interesting lately. With Hal-Con coming very quickly (it's March already...craaaaazy!!), Andrea's "Necrobilia" project needed to have more visibility on the web. Soooo...that's what I've been up to, lately. In one night, we had an official blog (here on LJ!), a twitter account, email addy, and image hosting all set up. A day later, I made it all pretty :D The main website is being put together right now, and we hope to get it all running smoothly soon. I have some contributions to make to the items to be sold coming, but that will take a little while...mostly waiting for the weather to warm up.

On top of that, Kinetik 3.0 is rapidly approaching...I so cannot wait for this year's festival!!

Those of you that know me well know that I'm an anime fanatic. And recently it's gotten even moreso, as I'm catching up on current series, hunting down old ones, and discovering new ones. If this continues, I'll never leave the house...which leads us to the next part of this update...

On the social side of things, I've been feeling more and more cut off from my friends, which hasn't really helped me in getting out of the house when I'm not working. I still feel like I'm stuck in a rut that I can't seem to pull myself out of easily. I still have the feeling like everyone has kinda left me behind, and not wanting to talk to me much. Even on MSN, I try to start conversations, and a multitude of reasons are given why they can't talk to me, but have all the time in the world to talk to others. It kinda makes me just wanna shut the entire world out and go full-time with my hermit ways, save for going to work...which does present a problem with the whole DJ thing, as I need to be in the midst of the public to do that...it is a pickle, no doubt about it. But the old shell I've tried to leave behind calls to me...and it's so very inviting, and I know if this continues that I'll just crawl right back into it and never come out again...which is both troubling and comforting at the same time.

Sooo...there you have it. For those interested in keeping up with Necrobilia, visit our official blog, catch us on Twitter, and become a fan on Facebook.

Now...off to sleep...hopefully...

Update 02/09/10

Well it's been a little while since I updated this thing...better late than never, I s'pose...

DJ SIDE:
The retro MasQ went very well...always great to see such a great turnout for an event. This month, in anticipation for Tim Burton's "Alice In Wonderland," MasQ is having an Alice theme...should prove to be very interesting indeed :)

I have a few DJ mixes to construct for different projects...I have a trance set all ready to be put together, a more house/pop kinda dance mix, and a noise set entitled "D357R0Y" which will be put together sometime soon...hopefully. I'm also competing at the Battle of the DJs on the 18th of this month at Club 1668...come on down for some great music!!

RADIO SIDE:
As I'm sure you've noticed, the radio shows have been non-existent as of late. I'm still considering not doing them at all, just from the lack of listeners. I've asked everyone if there is a better night during the week/better time...but I'm not getting a lot of response, which is depressing. So at this point, I'm not sure if anyone wants to hear the shows...and if not, then they will end altogether.

PERSONAL SIDE:
Been kinda bummed about not getting a few shows, aside from MasQ, to play...but such is life. I had to actually back out of a work project through Kelly Svcs, because of the discomfort as a result of the physical labour of the job...which is NOT what I signed up for when I applied to Kelly Svcs. Hopefully something will come up soon...

I'm still planning on going to Montreal in May for Kinetik 3.0...just hoping I can find more steady work to pay for the trip. I also have my lower teeth to deal with this year, which I'm not looking forward to...but there's little I can do about that...it has to be done.

I've also been suffering a bit from cabin fever...and I don't really get to see too many of my friends anymore, unless it's MasQ or the odd karaoke night. Really feeling out of the loop as of late. Ah well...

Well that's really all there is to put here publicly...I'll update it when something else mediocre happens...

The end of hard://DR1V3...

Well...tonight marks the end of a show I thought people liked to listen to. I had a total of 3 listeners tonight...much less than the number that SAID they'd be there to tune in. No support = no show.

How long Totally Retro will be continuing is anyone's guess at this point...

To the people that tuned in tonight...it's was most appreciated.

To the people that were invited that initially said they weren't able to make it...my ranting is not aimed at you.

To the maybes...the rant isn't really aimed at you either...

But...

To the people that said they'd be there or just say they're attending to boost the numbers...thanks for the lack of support...the show is now dead.
