What's the best music production software for windows?

I'm looking for a free or cheap starter software that comes with a least some rudimentary virtual instruments. I don't have a mac, otherwise I'd play around with garage band. What would people suggest?

Here are some suggestions I've found from my research so far:

- FL Studio

- Traction (latest seems to be T7)

- Ableton Live

- LMMS

Thanks in advance for the help!

Virtual dj pro !!! Software for professional djs!
CakeWalk - Cubase's main competitor, has recently become officially free. And for money, Cubase now has a 50% discount. If you start from scratch - it is better to immediately study at Cubase. Essential version is quite functional. But if there is a budget of 300 euros, then it is better to buy Pro.
