SELF DISCIPLINE

Self discipline is an aspect of life that many people struggle with. Why is it that when we know we must do something, our brain tends to do everything in its power to make excuses and come up with ways to distract us from completing the task at hand? If we could simply switch of this annoying feature of the human mind, we would get a lot more done!

Self discipline is something that can fortunately be practiced and perfected. It is a sort of training of the brain. Once you learn how to discipline yourself, you will be amazed at the turn your life takes.

The first step to self discipline when it comes to work is to minimize distractions. That is, create an environment that is supportive of the tasks you need to complete. If you work on a computer, set up an office that is pleasant and appealing as well as one that does not contain tempting distractions such as a TV, radio or even books. All of these things can take your mind off your work. Or if you are now at college and you think that your work more important than stydying, you can turn to academic writing services and spend time on work.

Set aside an hour or so per day where you allow yourself to become distracted by the Internet and TV and the like. The rest of your working hours should be spent working!

If you have access to the internet, cut it! You will never achieve work goals whilst you are aimlessly surfing internet websites. This is a common time waster among today’s self employed as well as in the work force. Millions of dollars are lost each year in corporations whose workers spend hours per day on the internet.

Once you are in this routine, self discipline will grow and you will feel yourself becoming stronger and less tempted to yield to temptation. Especially once you see the results that can manifest when you display self discipline.

Self discipline does not just apply to work. You need self discipline when it comes to diet, exercise and general health as well. If you are not in good health, you will find self discipline an impossible task when it comes to work. Discipline your body, and your mind will follow.

If you have trouble concentrating for long periods of time, cut your work periods down to short batches. For example, whatever work you need to do, do it in 30 minute increments. Even set a timer if you must. At the end of the 30 minutes of hard, undistracted work, go and do something else for 10 minutes. This will put you in the frame of mind of not being stuck at work forever. You know once you finish your 30 minutes that you will be allowed to have reprieve and rest. This has the wondrous effect of making you work even harder during the 30 minute time frame and allowing you to achieve so much more than if you did not set this limit on yourself.

Don’t fear hard work! Hard work is how you will achieve your ultimate desire in life. Sure, some people get there through luck or easy work but they are a rarity. Most of us must work hard to end up truly happy. Keep your mind set on your ultimate goal and self discipline will not seem like such a chore.

Don’t make excuses! Excuses are akin to poisoning yourself. They will get you nowhere and will allow you to achieve nothing. A self disciplined person never makes excuses not to do something, he just does it.

Self discipline comes from within and is a process some struggle with throughout their whole life. By training yourself in the art of self discipline now, you are setting yourself up for a brighter future and a stronger outlook on life.
