A Love Letter to Yuletide
So I'm trying to be a little more coherent than just telling everyone I know to go forth and read my gifts. Though if you trust my judgement, go forth and do just that. Don't waste any more time not reading these fics.
Everything That's Forsaken. You might think...'But I don't know the fandom'. The fandom is a song. A wonderful song, and the lyrics are here, and the song itself is listenable here.
This story, though.
This story is everything that's gorgeous about the song, and some things that aren't even there.
And it used one of the things I love, that of love not being enough, things not always working out just because people want them to, but it didn't do it in a way that would have broken my heart, and I am just so :D about this story.
Upon Earth's Noonward Height is Vienna Teng, The Last Snowfall.
Don't be put off by that it lists as a Sanctuary crossover, it's "essentially a fusion with almost no canon content from Sanctuary, effectively an original story with a tiny bit of Sanctuary at the end."
It reads independently just fine, and it's a very enjoyable story that I think really captures the feeling of the song, but has its own story as well.
Of What Could Be Lost is Vienna Teng, St. Stephen's Cross.
This is a really gorgeous piece that's so very evocative and transcends the imagery of the song, going so much further.
A note about all of these: These stories all do description very well, and they're all very complex pieces that I want to just keep rereading. I haven't entirely wrapped my head around any of them, because there are so many layers there. I look forward to getting to know these stories better.
