What was it like growing up in Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod, and how did that affect your music evolution?

Nizhny Novgorod is a quiet and peaceful city, life here differs much from that in Moscow, for example. So it is, probably, the best place to retire to the studio and sit down to work.

However electronic music isn’t in good demand in Nizhny Novgorod. You can rarely visit a worthwhile party here. As for Moonbeam, we perform in Nizhny Novgorod only once a year at a local WaterDance fest. So it comes it’s much easier for my friends to get to our live performances somewhere in Europe, than in our native town.

As an established international DJ and production outfit in 2010, what’s an average week like now in the life of Moonbeam?

First of all, it is studio work, listening to new demo’s and promo material, recording of new radioshow releases, daily routine like running over e-mail correspondence, discussions on new ideas for videos and etc. And of course attending a sport club three times a week is a must. At weekends we go on tours, so that Pavel usually goes to one part of the world, and Vitaly to another. We usually meet at the airport to have a cup of coffee and fly somewhere together with a Live performance.

How happy are you that Black Hole have realized your talent and taken you onboard?

Sure we are happy to work with Black Hole. Difficult to imagine how happy we were in 2007 when our track See The Different Inside got to the compilation ISOS. The release of several singles has followed immediately. We hope that our cooperation with Black Hole will last for a long time.

You’ve had over 50 releases, your music is supported by the world’s biggest trance DJs and you DJ around the world! How does that affect your sex life?

We like to work a lot and we’ve got used to live at a rapid rate. Frankly, it seems that our sex life only benefits from it. Testosterone works, and our wives/girls are in good mood ☺

Your new artist album ‘Around The World’ (coming our on Black Hole) oozes a smooth dose of warm, downbeat melodic trance. How reflective is that of your DJ sets?

You can discover various tracks on the album. For example, "Breathless" or "Closer To Me" can be played at big rave and trance festivals. “Song For A Girl” with its sexy vocal will probably suit some modern fashion show. Tracks "Evelyn" and "Life Tree" sound atmospheric and are good for relaxation and introspection.

What are your views on DJs using programmes such as Ableton to mix at gigs? To what extent does it eliminate the need for talent?

We never use Ableton on performances. It’s important for us to feel people and their mood and that would be impossible if we just stared at our laptop screens. We use CDs and sometimes vinyl when we perform as DJs. And when we play live we often use performance toys such as percussion and various midi keys. We use a very unusual platform for live performances: cubase as a main sequencer and CD drumkits and bass lines of the tracks recorded beforehand to ensure nonstop. Thus we are free to improvise!

What are your biggest achievements to date, and what are your goals for the future?

The biggest achievement is no doubt the release of the album. And, of course, international tours, which amount is increasing every year.

As for future we’d like to try our luck in writing music for cinema.

We also wish to work in cooperation with our favorite artists, such as Tom York, Zoot Woman, Royksopp.

And we plan to make a big live performance in specific Moonbeam manner. The performance that nobody has ever made.
