Bio: My journey into quality music began in 1975 in Novokuznetsk, Kemerovo region. That year, my parents and I moved to Turkey for a year and a half, as my father was working there under contract as an engineer on the construction of a metallurgical plant—a recurring theme in his career.
It was there that the Ocean receiver quietly picked up one of the most progressive radio stations of the time: Radio Monte Carlo. I started listening to huge, curated portions of popular music, and that is when my "taste for beauty" developed. My father recorded dozens of broadcasts from this station onto cassettes, and they stayed with me until I acquired my own tape recorder and began building my personal music library.
The DJ Years My first time organizing a disco was in high school. We were then asked to run a disco at the local university, which we did with great success. This culminated in us winning the first city disco competition in 1983. My appreciation for high-quality music paid off; our approach of playing the newest musical releases put us 3–4 months ahead of our competitors.
After university came the army, serving in the GSVG (Group of Soviet Forces in Germany). There, I constantly listened to another wonderful station: Jürgen Radio.
The Perestroika era brought a break from music; I switched my focus to video cassettes. However, diverse music always remained a constant and important presence in my life.
In 1996, the moment came when I was invited to play again, this time at one of Siberia's largest clubs, “Luna Disco.” This continued periodically until 1998.
Art Director and Club Policy The economic crisis that followed suspended the activities of almost all clubs, and I switched to a different job.
In 2001, I moved to Tolyatti. About six months later, I became the Art Director of the very famous Samara club, “Iceberg.” I no longer played music myself, but instead determined the club’s policy. Using old connections, I brought in familiar DJs from the capital cities.
I later returned to Tolyatti, collaborating with popular local clubs such as MDS, Komsomolets, and Hang Glider. This continued until 2004, when the club scene essentially came to an end.
Present Day and "Radio Afrika" Today, it is a simple hobby. I have mastered the software and learned how to mix using a laptop. My rule remains simple: music should always be interesting and as varied as possible.
As for the name “Radio Afrika”? A very long time ago, when the internet was just appearing, I took this login (spelled specifically with a “k”) on a forum. In 2010, I had a period of fascination with internet radio. I independently mastered the software, created jingles with a friend’s help, and broadcast for 10 whole months under the name “Radio Afrika.” The radio station disappeared, but the name has stuck.
Incredibly immersive! This mix is more than just a selection of tracks, but a true audio journey, masterfully woven from threads of memory, nostalgia, and impeccable taste. It feels like each composition isn't a random choice, but part of a deeply personal story that began at the «Ocean» radio and led here. The tracklist is flawlessly constructed: from the piercing emotionality of «I Cried Like a Child of Three» and the benchmark perfection of «Lovin' You», you gently guide us through cozy lounge landscapes (Olang, Aqua Mundi) to more hypnotic and contemporary soundscapes (Pflichta, Duenec). The dialogue between Edwin Watson's tracks is particularly captivating—like different facets of a single contemplative state. The finale with «The Perfume River» is a perfect, meditative epilogue. Your biography, told in the description, makes the listening experience special. Understanding this long journey - from Radio Monte Carlo tapes to art direction at Iceberg - you hear in the mix not only technique but also the layering of entire eras of musical experience. It's a rare quality: when a mix becomes not a collection of songs, but a sonic autobiography, where each melody is a milestone on the map of the «Yellow Coast». Thank you for this journey! Radio Afrika lives on and continues to discover new worlds. My support, dear friend +++
It's a cold winter evening, but the headphones are playing an amazing piece of music... and I was captured by the warm waves of a cozy atmosphere, with light cool notes of the May breeze of the Mediterranean....Incredible musical lyrics and drama! It's amazing and incomparable!!!
So kind of you, McOld. This session carried a gentle warmth while we created it, and it’s wonderful to know it resonated with you. Grateful for your presence on this journey.

Greetings! It was a true honor to host this guest mix by Radio Afrika. You’ve captured the essence of their contribution perfectly—it really is a "sonic autobiography" that bridges the gap between the «Ocean» radio days and the contemporary «Yellow Coast». I am so proud to have these layers of musical history on my channel. Thank you for recognizing the mastery in their track selection and the "Radio Afrika" spirit that continues to discover new worlds! Much respect!
