Currently there is nearly as much confusion about probiotic bacteria as there is scientific evidence of their health benefits. There are a fair number of clinical human and animal trials as well as studies about probiotic bacteria but despite all of this information that we have on them, evidence is still inconclusive, results are often conflicting between studies and trials and there is an overall lack of information, does this mean that you should not use probiotics? Well, no.

We have enough to know that certain strains make a difference and that probiotics can definitely manage your overall health and protect you from bacterial infections, improve your overall digestion and so on, but what I recommend that you do is consult a medic or consult a probiotic specialist instead of deciding on your own what probiotic dietary supplement to buy and to use.

There are already specialty shops which focus on selling probiotic products, everything is healthy and completely natural, you can find probiotics as well as prebiotic supplements in the form of capsules but also shake. I've been into one of those shops and there are people that know what prebiotics and probiotics are all about and they can recommend to you something good and of a good quality. Not all supplements are of good quality or use good strains, strains that are viable, that will survive and that are backed up by science or that are completely safe.

Also, unless you have a health disorder or immune deficiency or irritable bowel syndrome and other similar problems, which probiotics can help treat, you can and should just get probiotics regularly from your diet. Add foods like pickles, sauerkraut, yogurt, miso, kefir and so on, to your diet and you will get probiotic bacteria from them.

Probiotics supplements are not yet perfect and we have much more studying to do before we understand them well but hopefully in the future we will learn more about them and gather more evidence on their benefits and their mechanisms of action. There are hundreds of different strains in your body but we haven't even studied 100 strains, only a handful in fact so actually probiotics are still a new concept but they show a lot of promise and health management potential.
