Hailing from Saint-Petersburg in Russia, Bop is a new breed of producer intent on re-writing the rulebook with an intoxicating ice-cold sound; embracing influences from deep house, dub techno and IDM through to minimalist dubstep and ambient drum & bass. Inspired by the likes of Photek and Paradox, he has swiftly carved out a sounds of his own. On heavy rotation on the Bop home stereo you’re as likely to hear dub techno as you are free jazz, trip hop and even hardcore punk.

Bop is a banana-eating fruitarian with a 6 year old dog namedBooyaka, who despite the calming and soothing nature of his music frequently gets mad when there’s no hot water in his Saint-Petersburg apartment. He also says he can’t see without his glasses, but fortunately for us his ears are in perfect working order! When he’s not busy playing classic 8-bit computer games from the eighties, Bopfinds time to run co-venture free label and musical community Microfunk with Oak and Despot (Jalex and Stepan) called Microcircuit.

Bop made his Med School debut with the stunningly beautiful “Song About My Dog” and glitch-ridden “Random Thoughts” which sold out rapidly and was subsequently re-pressed on vinyl. Bop and his dog Booyaka returned from intergalactic space again in summer 2009 with more super fresh subtleties in Bop’s debut album ‘Clear Your Mind’. Then in May 2010, the Bop ‘Remix Your Mind EP’ was released, featuring re-works by Blu Mar Ten, Lynx, Subwave, Thinnen (iambop.com remix competition winner) and Unquote.

Since then, Bop has been lost in translation, experimenting with detail and structure in his compositions. Taking inspiration from fellow Saint Petersburg musicians such as Oak, Jalex, Dissident, Diagram, Korsun as well as James Blake, Consequence, Luke Vibert, Flying Lotus, he has been busy crafting his sophomore album, “The Amazing Adventures Of One Curious Pixel”, due for release on 30^th May 2011.

Expect the unexpected and cast aside your drum & bass aspersions; Bop is an artist light-years ahead of the game and he’s determined to win the symphonic space race by stretching the parameters of electronic music.

Я люблю сочинять музыку, впервые я начал это делать в 5 лет, когда мне дядя Анатолий подарил маленькое переносное пианино. С тех пор я ни дня не могу прожить без музыки и каждый день упражняюсь.

В 12 лет я купил себе баян и ходил в музыкальную школу. Потом плохие ребята со двора разбили мне мой любимый баян об руку. Теперь я не могу играть ни на баяне, ни на пианино. Ни даже машину водить.

И тогда я купил компьютер и теперь я могу и очень рад играть мышкой на виртуальных синтезаторах, с помощью которых я издаю всякие разные интересные звуки. Эти звуки не похожи на пианино или баян, они очень классные, поэтому я их и люблю.
