He was born Godwin Wangio Kiwinda now commonly know as Status on 28 january in nairobi Kenya.His love for music begun early in his life,being that his father was a d.J he always listened to soul,the classics,from Marvin Gaye,The Temptations to Bee Gees, The Beatles,and even Buddy Holly. He says he listened to all types of music from morning to late in the night,he had no choice but to love it.As he grew came about hip hop and he knew from the start when he listened to Talib Kweli,A tribe called quest,N.W.A Mase and Biggie,2pac and L.L. cool.j, at 15 he knew it was what he really loved and started to craft his skills in writting rap. soon he had started to miss school in order to go to the studio in his high school years which his mother did not like and sent him to Uganda to keep him from the company he had in Kenya since she is a Ugandan by nationality,but this did not stop him from persuing his passion to rap he continued to write and perform in school gigs but this was not what he wanted,so on finishing high school and back in Kenya he met up with his cousin who at the time was a well known rapper and begun to present himself which impressed his friends and cousin too who was to start a label and have him as an artist. But fate took another turn when he found he was to come to Ukraine to study,on getting to ukraine he met with other friends who liked music even starting a group,which they called Kayman they begun to tour the country make music and videos and did many colaborations, with many local artists even getting the attention of many in the music industry even going on to win the Parliament competition in Kiev in 2008,since Status was the writer of all the Kayman songs,he soon decided to take things more seriously thus going solo.Now Status is currently working on his album,and has even found that he not only write Hip hop songs for himself but also pop and rock songs for other musicians,as he plans to take over the music scene not only locally but globally.Now an artist on the label GREEN CASH RECORDS.
