Greetings from Estonia! Baltic DJ`s and producers are welcome on my friendlist...
Nic von Tribe
To become a DJ is something I have wanted since childhood, when I used to play audio cassetes at a local culture center for the few people on the dancefloor. I was 12 then. At the age of 13, I developed a great interest in progressive music. Caater was then my favorite band and trance became my favorite music genre. After that , ATB came and Finnish sensation – Darude, whose track Sandstorm is still on my playlist. For my 18th birthday, my friends took me to Valga nightclub Yes! to a party called Active Attack. I was speechless when I saw and heard Mindset playing. Till that day I had never thought that playing records could be a serious job. I felt that one day I definitely want to be a DJ . I did a lot of reasearch on the Internet about DJ-ing and where I could learn about it. I was very suprised when I discovered that DJ Aivo Tammela and Mario Liimann aka Dj Degre: were organizing a course called DJ School. With some luck and help of some people I was able to register to the course. Although the course took place only once per month, and driving from Tartu to Valgamaa was very annoying – it was worth it. I developed more interest in DJ-ing and music in general. I knew there was a guy at my school who also was into DJ-ing – Kriss Voog aka Cris Flow. I approached him to get some advise, but instead of that I got much more. He was so kind and helpful that he even allowed me to practice with his equipment, which I bought from him later. After a year of practice and spending a lot of money on vinyls I started to make some progress. My mixing started to sound good, of course, I could only demonstrate my skills to a few friends at home, but it still was a audience. In summer 2006 my DJ career changed totally. I was invited to play at a party in my childhood village. At that party, two local guys where amazed by my mix and they also wanted to try. Later, they became known as Dj Warn and Dj Gesser. By September we were known as DJ-Team and the same month we had our first gig at that same club Yes! where I had first realised I wanted to become a DJ. We started our own event called Hard Night which took place every first Friday of the month and it lasted for 14 months. By the end of year 2007 we broke up due to financial and personal issues. My career as a DJ went down the toilet. Nightclubs were replaced by culture centers, trance turned into mainstream and vinyl turned into CD. In 2008 I started playing house music and got a chance to play at Yes! again for a few times. I thought this was as far as I can get as a DJ, but participating in So you think you can DJ competition has changed my DJ career once again, and this time for good! I started to play regulari at Stereo Lounge which is one of hotest spots in Tallinn. Along came some invetations to small clubs in South - Estonia, which now developed into regulars. Having at least 2 gigs in a month is now normal to me. When just a year ago it seemed only a dream...
